Aight y’all, this is a new series. Every Saturday you’ll get to hear an original song - some I’ve already recorded, some are brand new. This one is called Let Me Be Strong, which I wrote about staying for two weeks in the hospital with our brand new baby boy. I was frustrated not being able to do anything to fix his illness, and having to drive an hour both ways every day switching nights at the hospital with my wife. The day I started writing this song, I had met another family whose son had been staying in the hospital for 8 months, and I felt ashamed for complaining. I wrote this song as a reminder to be grateful, and also to give hope to anyone in the thick of suffering - especially when it’s your children. Just let us be strong so we can keep up the fight. Love y’all.

This is the one. It took me twenty minutes to write this song. Lyrics and melody just poured out of me like it was the most easy and natural thing in the world. Even though how I got here was anything but easy and natural. I was one of those teenagers who COULD NOT WAIT to leave the dumb town where my parents lived, and then as soon as I actually did leave all I wanted to do was go back. Southern Alabama is my home, and it always will be. It just took me a while to figure it out. If home is where the heart it, you’d best believe mine is right here by the bay. Love y’all.

Addiction sucks, yo. I wrote this to comfort a family friend who was watching his spouse go through the vicious cycle of substance abuse. He finally had to concede that there was nothing he could to to change her, and he admitted that he just hoped she would be all right. It was rough for everybody involved, so this was a way I could offer him some comfort. Turns out a lot of people need this type of comfort. We just hope that our person will be all right. Love y’all.

I wrote this song (and it hasn’t been recorded yet) in response to an argument about how easy it is to write pop country. Turns out it’s only easy if you have a really fleshed out idea, so about the same as any other genre. I had a blast putting this one together over a few weeks with the help of my dad, and now I might be a country artist □‍♂️ but whatever it’s fine. Here’s to anyone hoping for a better life someday, and making it happen right now. Love y’all.
